COCODRILO CAVE SYSTEM

CLICK FOR A LARGER VIEWDuring 2004 we had also this interesting adventure.
On 2004 a team of experienced local cave divers created a group called COCODRILO cave diving group. The idea was to explore this new system in a systematic way with a couple missions on each dive.
1) surveying the cave.
2) Obtain biological samples.
3) Obtain water samples.
4) Register archaeological deposits.
5) Get back safely.
Cave EntryThis one-year effort was worth it, we created a first class map of the system and obtained very important information on cave fauna.
More than 10000 feet of new cave was found, and at least 100 cave dives where made safely. Today Cocodrilo cave system is the third longest cave in Cozumel.
In this cave we also found Mayan artifacts and very important thermobaceans colonies.
I would like to thank all the people who collaborated as safety divers and cave divers. Particularly the Cocodrilo cave diving group from Cozumel who are:
Mateo Gutierrez
Diego Romo
Alejandro Alvarez

Also thanks to Ph.D. Luis Mejia from UQROO and the Archaeologist Luis Martos from INAH who conducted the entire scientist and archaeological research for this cave.
