CENOTE SNORKEL TOUR
40 Million years ago, the Yucatan peninsula was a coral reef. During the ice ages the ocean receded and
rainwater seeped through the porous limestone (karst), this created underground rivers and caves with magnificent
stalactites, stalagmites and large column forms 12 thousand years ago.
After the last ice age the ocean raised again and the underground rivers and caves were filled with
fresh water. Because the ground weakened it collapsed in some places, creating karst windows (CENOTES). These Cenotes now
serve as entrances of to the underground rivers and caverns you will be visiting on this unforgettable Mayan Sacred water
SNORKEL TOUR.
Yucatech Expeditions will take you to the most impressive Cenotes and Dry Caves in the region called Dos
Ojos, Eden , Grand Cenote, Aktun Chen, Mayan Blue and other interesting jungle Snorkeling sites. It is a perfect for
Snorkeling because of its size and beauty, its a trip for all the family. This sites are very well preserved with
incredible cavern formations and as the ancient Mayans use to say: they are windows and entrances of the mythical
underworld.
Logistics: The Snorkel Cenote Tour departs form the fiscal pier of Cozumel at 8 am, and returns at 2 PM
to the island. Your Snorkeling guide will provide you with all the proper briefings and assistance during the tour.
Includes: Two different snorkel sites (Cenotes), transportation round trip to Cozumel, full lunch and
sodas, snorkel gear and a qualified snorkel guide.
Water Temperature: 77 F (25 C).
Visibility all year: around 300 ft (90 meters).
Depths: No more than 20 ft (6 meters). Average depth 5 ft (1.5 meters).
